A Historic Journey
Under the baton of world renowned British conductor Michael Francis, (Chief Conductor of Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz), NYO Canada musicians began their TD Tour journey in Waterloo at Wilford Laurier University, where they performed a variety of chamber concerts alongside faculty, this prepared them for their summer tour. Along with some very exciting repertoire from composers such as Mahler and Prokofiev, this year’s lineup included the Brahm’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello.
The Canadian leg of the 2019 TD Odyssey Tour began – appropriately – in Ottawa on July 21st , at the newly renovated Dominion Chalmers United Church in downtown Ottawa as part of Ottawa Chamberfest in collaboration with the National Arts Centre. After Ottawa, we continued to perform on July 22nd in Montreal Stunning Maison symphonique. Upon returning to Ontario, musicians will perform at both the Festival of the sound in Parry Sound on July 25th , and at Startford Summer Music on July 27th/28th, completing their Canadian tour a Toronto’s Koerner Hall on July 29 On July 31st the 110-person entourage crossed the Atlantic to Spain, to perform 4 concerts through 3 Spanish festivals. Performances were held in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Alicante, and Granada
