NYO At A Glance

In June, musicians from every corner of the nation converge at the Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University for our 5-week summer training institute and 3-week tour.

Under the baton of a globally recognized conductor and world-renowned faculty of professional musicians and educators, participants receive individual, sectional, chamber, and orchestral instruction, including masterclasses and workshops.

NYO Canada Chamberfest

Upon arriving at NYO, musicians embark on a 2-week intensive chamber music program led by a dedicated faculty of chamber music professionals. Each musician will rehearse and perform in multiple ensembles culminating in a series of free public concerts.

Orchestral Institute

On week 3, orchestral sectional work begins. All instrument groupings convene twice a day to work through two full orchestral programs. Musicians also attend a wide range of masterclasses. As the week progresses, sections combine into full strings, winds, brass, and percussion, followed by full orchestral rehearsals.

NYO Canada Tour

The summer concludes with a 3-week tour, a series of 8 to 10 concerts in the most iconic performance venues, spanning top Canadian cities and international destinations. This tour, made possible by our funders, generous donors, and partner presenters, is an unforgettable experience for aspiring professional musicians.
