Oboe

Sarah Jeffrey joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Principal Oboe in 2005.

An active recitalist and chamber musician, Ms. Jeffrey makes frequent guest appearances with the Amici Chamber Ensemble, and appears as guest soloist with numerous orchestras across Canada.  Last season, she performed Mozart’s Oboe Concerto with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.  During the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s 2007-2008 season, she performed Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin with soloist James Ehnes.

A devoted performer of new music, Ms. Jeffrey commissioned Chaconne for Oboe, Horn and Piano by Erik Ross, appeared as soloist with the Evergreen Gamelan Ensemble, and has collaborated with several New Music ensembles.

A Toronto native, Sarah received a Bachelor Degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with former Toronto Symphony Orchestra Principal Oboe, Richard Dorsey.  She then completed her Masters Degree in performance at the New England Conservatory of Music with Laura Ahlbeck in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ms. Jeffrey is a dedicated teacher, and is a faculty member of the University of Toronto and the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music.  She has presented masterclasses at the University of Lethbridge, Mount Royal University, the University of Toronto, and was the Guest Artist at the Ottawa University Oboe Event in January 2012.  Ms. Jeffrey is a recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Chalmers Award for Creativity and Excellence in the Arts. 

Sarah is married to Toronto Symphony Orchestra horn player Gabriel Radford, and they live in Toronto with their three year-old daughter, Evelyn, and one year-old, Aidan.
