Bio

Passionate about music, Roxanne Sicard graduated from the Montreal Conservatory of Music in 2018. In 2012, Roxanne won the first prize at the Marcelle CorneilleFestival in 2012 and at the Festival et Concours de musique de Lanaudière in 2012 and 2015. As a chamber musician, Roxanne collaborates with cellist Marc-André Riberdy and they became the Duo Classique. In May 2018, they played in the Opus 130 Chamber Music Competition and won the first prize, including a tour of a few concerts in 2019. Enjoying especially symphonic music, Roxanne joins the NYO Canada in 2016, 2017 and 2018 with which she toured in Canada, Portugal, Germany and Scotland.

Favourite NYO memory

With the NYO, we get to perform so much that it is almost impossible not to relate my favorite moment to a concert. During the 2018 Migrations tour, we made a stop in Berlin and performed at the beautiful Konzerthaus. It was our first concert representing Canada outside of the borders, and I think everybody was proud of showing what we worked on so hard. This concert was a very special moment in my career because I never felt like that playing with any other orchestras. I know that I want to be an orchestral musician, but this summer, I understood why: nothing is more powerful than almost one hundred musicians gathering their effort into the same thing, doing great music.

Advice for new NYO applicants

My first thought would be: do it! If we really think about it, just the process of preparing the audition and how you organize your practice is very important for anything you want to accomplish in your future career. NYO Canada is the best and thorough orchestral program I know, and it will give you experience that you could never get from a school program, in my opinion. For example, I remember how much I learned how to stay focussed and in shape touring for 28 days across Canada. And as a lot of people say: the summer you are going to spend the NYO is going to be the best of your life, as it has been for me for the past 3 years.
