Horn – NYO Member: 2017, 2018 – QC
Horn player Rachel Côté is a Montreal native, and is in her third year of her Bachelors degree at the Glenn Gould School under the tutelage of Gabriel Radford, where she is a recipient of The Ihnatowycz Emerging Artist Scholarships. Rachel pursues an orchestral, chamber, and soloistic career; she has performed with, amongst others, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Rachel was the winner of the 2016 West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2017 OSM Manulife Competition. Her brass quintet, Wetakinova, placed third in the 2018 GGS Chamber Music Competition, and she is the founder of the Conservatory Chamber Players project, which aims to support Toronto charities through chamber music concerts in casual venues. In her spare time, Rachel is an avid reader, runner, cat mom, and vegan.

Advice for new NYO applicants
Be musical! Obviously you need to play the right notes and rhythms, but the panel wants to hear someone who is capable of making them feel something. That’s what music is meant to do, in the end.
