Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
It was chosen for me by the band teacher in grade 7 when we had to start the band program. I actually had no interest in playing it whatsoever at first!

What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I aspire to be principal oboist in a major north American symphony orchestra and to teach oboe students at the university level. I also hope to bring classical music into the lives of as many people as possible and to be involved in chamber music to some degree.

How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada? / Comment pensez-vous que votre participation à NYO Canada puisse vous aider?
The repertoire this year is very demanding and the experience of having to play everything at a very high level (including in recording and touring situations) is invaluable. Of course lessons and masterclasses with some of Canada's best musicians is also greatly beneficial to one's development.

What are your interests outside classical music / Avez-vous d’autres intérêts à part la musique classique ?
Reading exercising cooking word games Alexander Technique and frisbee.

Who is your favourite classical musician? / Quel est votre artiste (classique) préféré ?
I could never choose just one.

Who is your favourite non-classical musician? / Quel est votre artiste (non classique) préféré ?
I don't know - I don't listen to any non-classical music!

What has recently played on your Mp3? / Qu’écoutez-vous ces jours-ci sur votre Mp3?
Peter Bowman's recording of Vivaldi's F Major Oboe Concerto

If you weren't touring with NYO Canada what would you be doing with your summer? / Si vous ne faisiez pas partie de NYO Canada que feriez-vous cet été?
Likely participating in a different Canadian orchestral music festival.

What is there about you that you think people might be surprised to know? / Y a-t-il quelque chose à votre propos qui est un peu surprenant ou hors de l’ordinaire?
I was an avid skateboarder and snowboarder in high school; it was essentially my life outside of school. I still sometimes check skateboarding and snowboarding websites to catch up on the latest news and videos and when somebody is skateboarding nearby it's like a magnet - I absolutely have to watch!

For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour? / Pour participants vétérans: Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de NYO Canada?
Sitting on stage at Roy Thompson Hall playing our last concert and listening to the Adagietto from Mahler 5. Many of us in the wind section were moved to tears. It was an amazing combination of emotions.
