01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I always wanted to play a stringed instrument, but I didn't want to play the same thing as my brother (cello), and I thought I would look a little goofy playing anything smaller. Then one day my mum came home with a double bass and I was instantly hooked.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I want to play in an orchestra professionally for a long while. Then after several years, take up a job as a sessional professor at a University, ideally while still doing a fair bit of professional playing on the side.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
Fitness and sports have always gone hand in hand with music as my lift passions. I was recruited to play football at the University of Toronto, and now spend a good deal of my time coaching younger players, and other varsity sports at UofT.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Edgar Meyer

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Beethoven 2

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Koussevitsky Concerto

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
When I realized how little I wanted to spend my life sitting at a desk or working construction, and all i wanted to do was play bass.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
Personally I think it is maintaining a positive outlook and keeping focused on the big picture. The general reaction I receive when I tell people I am studying music is surprise, shock, or even disappointment (not from my loving family who are very very excited about it), and that can definitely make it difficult to be positive about the whole situation. Moreover, it can be very easy to get bogged down in performance tasks, exams and auditions, and stressing about those things can keep one from thinking about the overall goals, and that's very important to do.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
Stories I heard from my Professor, Tim

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
I will be able to meet many many other people who share similar passions to mine. As well as get to experience a lot of new Canadian music that I had never been exposed to until now. The overall nigh-professional experience will also be very beneficial for my musical development as well.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
Did not apply after I got my NYO acceptance

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would be attending other summer programs (Predominately Orford and PRISMA), and working at a garden center for the whole summer. And perhaps a small bit of travelling.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
Getting accepted to the University of Toronto's performance program and receiving 2 entrance scholarships, while getting recruited to play college football in the same year.
