01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I started both the violin and piano at the age of four. My mother is a pianist so she naturally put me on piano. As for violin, my older brother played from a young age as well, and after hearing his Suzuki concerts, I wanted to be a part of the program as well.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
My professional goals are not set-in-stone at this point in my life. However, I know I would love to play in a professional orchestra someday (in the near future, hopefully!). I am particularly interested in movie soundtracks, and my biggest ambition is to play in a studio orchestra.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
I love jamming out with friends, the outdoors (particularly hiking), baking, photography, and spending time with my family.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Jonathan Crow

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Shostakovich Symphony 5, Mendelssohn Piano Trio 1, Schubert Cello Quintet, Chopin Nocturne Op 9 No.1

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Sibelius Violin Concerto

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I studied music extensively throughout my whole childhood, I can't imagine pursuing anything but music!

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
The biggest challenge for me is staying positive. Music is a hard, competitive field. No matter how much one practices, we still go to lessons/coachings/masterclasses and get picked apart. There is always room for improvement, and it's therefore hard to know when to reward yourself and to stop being so critical and simply enjoy the music for what it is.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
It was highly recommended to me by many friends, and the opportunity to work with many young talents

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
I am confident I will benefit in many ways; the most prominent being the fact that I will get to cover tons of great repertoire and enhance my orchestral playing skills.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar, Orford masterclasses/string quartet/orchestra

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would likely be doing the St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar, followed by a month of working, and then the Orford Orchestra.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
It's tied with when I found out I won the University of Toronto Concerto Competition, and when I led the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster in an amazing program of Lutoslawski Concerto for Orchestra, Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3, and the Moldau by Smetana. My brother was playing principal second for this concert and we had solos together in the Lutoslawski. It was an extremely special moment that I will never forget.
