01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
My mom started playing a year before I did and got me interested in playing. I then asked my parents if I could take lessons.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I want to a variety of different things: teach students; perform chamber music; and, more recently, a career in musician's health, where I can be active in educating students at the university age, as well as before, about health and promoting and implementing strategies in schools.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
The outdoors (I love going on hiking and canoe trips and hope to do a solo trip after I graduate); traveling (I've also got big plans after I graduate, hopefully Iceland and Asia will be included); biking and swimming as well as sports like soccer and rowing have always been a big part of my life; recently gotten into cooking and baking; and, always, reading anything and writing short fiction.

09. For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour?/ Pour participants vétérans : Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de l’ONJC ?
The whole experience was amazing—one of best summers of my life for sure—and I remember loving the repertoire from that year (Daphnis and Chloe and Mahler 1) as well as having a great conductor. One of my fondest memories was the concert at Koerner as well as the final concert at Chan Center and realizing how far we'd come as an orchestra, as musicians and as friends.

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
It had always been a big part of my life and my passion, and I wanted to explore what that would mean as a career and to incorporate something I loved into my everyday life.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
The lack of jobs as well as maintaining your health as a musician and preventing or maintaining injury. There are so many musicians choosing to follow their dreams now and it's becoming harder and harder to 'make it'. Then, when you do get a tentative contract with an orchestra for example, musicians often get injured with all the music they have to learn and the strain on their bodies from sitting and playing for hours a day in an orchestra setting where it's harder to think of things like posture and relaxation.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
The tour to Portugal and because of the amazing experience I had the last time.

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
Collaborating and meeting other musicians from across Canada, as well as working with current professionals, is always useful for making contacts. Also learning and playing orchestral repertoire to prepare for orchestral jobs. NYO Canada also provides what it feels like to be in a professional orchestra, so it's a great learning experience.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
No, I didn't apply to any others.

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
Working a summer job and maybe doing a bit of traveling and hiking.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
Working with New Orford String Quartet during the Orford quartet workshop with my string quartet from McGill.

17. What scholarships, if any, have you been awarded in the past year?/ Quelles bourses, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
Scholarship from Orford for the String Quartet Workshop

18. What awards, if any, have you won in the past year?/ Quels prix, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
