01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
Back when I was four years old, I wanted to play the piano, however, we didn’t have a piano, and they are hard to get. After hearing a violin concert though, I was captivated by its sound, and had to start playing it. Very soon, the violin became my favorite instrument.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I would love to have a career as a soloist or chamber musician, as chamber music is a huge passion of mine. Playing in a professional orchestra would be enjoyable too, since some of the orchestral repertoire is just too good to miss! Science is also a passion of mine, especially the fields of medicine, biology, and computer science.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
Apart from music, my main interests are in biology, technology, computer science, and programming. I also enjoy sports like badminton, ping-pong, and swimming, and I do some computer gaming from time to time.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?
Of course, my work has been seminal in the development of 'fragmentarily-electroacoustic avant-garde-music', a highly intellectual, and rather absolute genre. But actually no, I don't, hope you enjoyed that!

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Too hard to pick one! Some of my favorites are Itzhak Perlman, Yehudi Menuhin, Hilary Hahn, Maxim Vengerov, and James Ehnes.

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
It would be impossible to pick just one.

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
This would be either Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, or Brahms.

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
My love for classical music and this art form is too great for me to leave it. I listen to it all the time, and there’s no way I could live without it!

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
The biggest challenge would be the continual debate between choosing the field of science or music. So far I’ve been able to combine these great fields successfully, and I hope I’ll be able to continue doing that.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
To gain invaluable professional orchestra experience from this type of tour, and to improve the level of my playing.

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
I will benefit musically by getting to work on some wonderful repertoire with an incredible group of musicians!

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I’d be attending Orford or some other music festival.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
Performing the Sibelius concerto as soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra was an incredible moment that I had the privilege of having.

17. What scholarships, if any, have you been awarded in the past year?/ Quelles bourses, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
Still waiting to hear results!
