Age / âge

How old were you when you started playing your instrument? / Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
In the summer before my first year of high school everyone who had signed up for band class was invited to come and try out an instrument and keep it until classes started in the fall when we would decide whether or not we wanted to continue on that instrument or try something new. I showed up when most of the instruments were already gone. In fact the only instrument left was the trombone. In the fall I stuck with it and never looked back. In a sense you could almost say the trombone chose me.

What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I would like to be a part of a major symphony orchestra but I would also like to play chamber music and help to create and perform new repertoire for the trombone and for brass. I want to study and work abroad to absorb culture and music that would make me a more well-rounded person and musician.

What made you decide to pursue classical music? / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I could not honestly see myself doing anything else. Classical music in particular just has this magnificent capacity to bring people together to reach a common goal that is to stir up emotions in the listener. Being a part of that whole which is the symphony orchestra (or a chamber group or even a duo) and feeling the energy that is involved in performing for people is why I pursue classical music.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music? / Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
