How old were you when you started playing your instrument? / Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I think it's more accurate to say that the cello chose me ... it is the instrument that most closely resembles the human voice and I think it is beautiful.

What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
To form/join an ensemble that plays eclectic repertoire and to travel perform teach and produce my own music while collaborating with other artists.

What made you decide to pursue classical music?
I found myself on that path - thanks to the gentle guiding hand of my parents - and decided to stick with it because it is both challenging and rewarding and I want to see how far the rabbit hole goes ... I will always have a relationship with the cello. It's always there for me and tells me exactly what I need to know; it is brutally honest with me! Being rooted in the classical tradition is a great basis upon which to move into any other kind of music - and not only because of the technique and dedication required.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?
Going beyond myself and pursuing my dreams and making it all work. You can't get anywhere without finding something out about yourself in the process and it is getting out there and putting things in motion that I believe is the biggest challenge I face.

How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?

I can only imagine that being a part of the NYOC will help me to become a better musician and a better person. I feel that my ability and passion for music will be supported and taken further by participation in the NYOC.

Do you write or arrange your own music?

I spent two years in Freiburg Germany studying German and playing in the University of Freiburg's academic orchestra.

What advice would you give young artists just starting out?
Don't give up on your art but give yourself enough space from it to explore the world around you because you bring that back to your art. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. There is no room for the ego in music so get over yourself so you can go beyond yourself.
