How old were you when you started playing your instrument? / Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I started playing piano and violin when I was 4 and picked up the trumpet when I was in 7th grade. After a year I was ready for a new challenge and turned to the horn because my father told me it was much more difficult. My classmates told me I sounded like a duck at first but I stuck with it and now I'd like to think I sound a little bit better.

What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
Playing in one of the major North American orchestras maintaining a studio at a conservatory or university and performing chamber music with my colleagues.

What made you decide to pursue classical music? / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
In high school I was a member of the wind ensemble at the Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival. We had the opportunity to perform at Roy Thomson Hall and when I walked out on stage I was instantly hooked.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music? / Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
Incorporating technology and effective business and marketing strategies are important for any artist trying to make a living in our society. I'd also like to think that orchestras will still be alive and kicking for the duration of my career. It's essential that we strive to be well-rounded individuals capable of excelling at a variety of tasks because as our industry evolves so too must our abilities and skill set.

How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada? / Comment pensez-vous que votre participation à NYO Canada puisse vous aider?
Working with the incredible faculty and performing with the best musicians from across the country on tour will be amazing!

Definitely the yoga! I started about a year ago and I can't stop.

Don't neglect practicing your scales!

I had a great time working and performing with Steve Woomert Rob Weymouth and Dunty Vander Hyden during the 2009 session. "How am I going to pay you? I can't find my wallet."
