The NYOC would like to congratulate recent alumnus Andrew Mee (2007) after hearing news of his successful audition for the position of 4th horn with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Brian G’froerer, current NYOC horn coach and former VSO horn player, was pleased to make the announcement on the evening of January 15th after hearing of the final selection.
Brian gleefully added that the other finalist was yet another NYOC alumus, Miciah Sturgess (2005, 2006)!
An Ontario native, Andrew toured with the NYOC during the 2007 season, later going on to pursue advanced horn studies at the Yale School of Music in Connecticut. Andrew has recently been performing with Symphony Nova Scotia while finishing his Masters of Music. This will be a coast-to-coast move for the young player!
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra horn section is no stranger to the NYOC with the majority of the section having graduated from our program:
Ben Kinsman (2nd horn, NYOC 1999 and 2000) Dave Haskins (3rd horn and Assoc. Principal, NYOC 2001, 2002 and 2004) Andrew Mee (4th horn, NYOC 2007)
Congratulations to our 2 finalists and good luck to Andrew in his new position with the VSO!
We love to share the success of our graduates – if you (or someone you know) has exciting news to report, let us know!
