Since 2012, NYO Canada has accepted international students into our Orchestra! Successful applicants will participate in the entire NYO Canada session, tour, and will be held to the same standards as the Canadian students. International students will also be required to apply and audition in the same as the Canadian students. For further information on the application and audition process, please see our Audition Guidelines.
Who can apply? Orchestral musicians who between the ages of 16 and 28 on or before July 1st, 2017.
On top of the Tuition fee, international students will be responsible for the following costs:
• $300 deposit. Upon successful fulfillment of the student contract and adherence to the NYO Canada Discipline Code Agreement, $200 of the deposit will be refunded after the session; subject to deductions in the event of property damage, lost/stolen keys, key deposits, or other expenses incurred by the NYO Canada on behalf of the student;
• Travel costs for yourself and your instrument to the session and from the tour;
• Food costs during the tour: we suggest budgeting $40 day for food and incidentals.
All training costs, food and housing at the training location as well as travel and accommodation during the tour are included in the Tuition fee. International students will not be eligible for any awards, scholarships, or bursaries.
Tuition can be paid all at once or in two installments. The first installment of $2500.00 should be paid upon acceptance in March (date TBD). The second installment should be paid by May 1, 2017.
Visa Requirements: Musicians need not apply for a Student or Working Visa. Musicians may participate in the NYO Canada session and tour with a valid Tourist Visa. It is the student’s responsibility to research and obtain a valid Tourist Visa. Any costs involved in the process of obtaining such a visa are the responsibility of the student, as well.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
NB: International students will not replace Canadian students. They will be invited to participate as additional members of the orchestra.
