The RBC Foundation has generously agreed to sponsor the NYO Canada's new Composer-in-Residence program to help foster some of the many young and exciting composers that Canada has to offer. With the assistance of groups like the RBC Foundation, NYO Canada is able to continue its mandate to support young Canadian musicians, and we are very thankful for the RBC's support of this new composer initiative through their Emerging Artists Program.
In year one, NYO Canada will perform an existing work by the Composer- in-Residence with the possibility of a commissioned work for chamber ensemble. The composer will reside in Waterloo, ON with NYO Canada for a portion of its annual training institute and work closely with faculty, conductors and the orchestra. Adequate rehearsal time, player access, advice from the faculty and conductors, and exposure to the music infrastructure provided. The Composer-in-Residence will have opportunities to work with chamber ensembles in various combinations and scale. The composer will work on the creation of a new orchestral work commissioned by NYO Canada to be performed the following year.
In year two, the composer will again reside with the orchestra while they learn and prepare the programs of repertoire that will include the new, commissioned work.
