01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?
5

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
All my friends played the piano, so I thought I should do something different. My dad was a fan of Sherlock Holmes who was also a violinist, so he suggested the violin and here I am now. Thanks a lot dad.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I enjoy teaching and performing in solo, chamber and orchestral settings, so ideally I would make a career out of all of the above. Being able to support myself with even one of those options would already be amazing though.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
I like reading as well as watching TV/movies. Unfortunately I don't spend as much time leisure reading as I would like, since being a student keeps me busy.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?
No

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Janine Jansen

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Currently it's Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 132

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1

09. For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour?/ Pour participants vétérans : Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de l’ONJC ?
Performing Mahler's Symphony No. 9 with NYOC in 2013 was one of best orchestral experiences I've had. It was amazing to be a part of something that everyone was emotionally committed to.

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I had a hard time deciding, but deep down I think I always knew that there was nothing else that would make me as happy.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
I think a big challenge for young musicians is how to persevere and stay motivated in the face of rejection and setbacks. I have faced many more failures than successes and that's a natural process. I think this will get more difficult as the stakes get higher, especially once I'm out of school and looking for a job.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
It's one of the leading orchestral training programs in North America.

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
I'm looking forward to playing with many great and dedicated musicians, who have the time to focus on orchestra in a way that's not possible during the school year. I think NYO Canada will help me hone my skills as an orchestral and chamber musician. I'm also looking forward networking with new people and being exposed to European culture on our tour to Portugal this year!

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
Yes

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would probably be attending the Toronto Summer Music Festival.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
The first thing that comes to mind would be when I had the opportunity to perform concerto works with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Academy Chamber Orchestra. While those are great achievements for me thus far, I'm more proud of just knowing how far I've come and how much I've developed. I think moments that are more important to me now are the small breakthroughs that over time have culminated in who I am as a musician today.

18. What awards, if any, have you won in the past year?/ Quels prix, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
NYOC Award of Excellence
