01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?
4 years old

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
When I was 4 years old my parents started me on the cello, as they had the philosophy that all of their kids should play an instrument. We lived very close to a cello teacher, and they started me on lessons. I don't remember having any say in the matter, but I didn't object to it at all!

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I always want to keep music as a part of my life. I am currently pursuing studies in science, but I love playing in chamber ensembles and in my local orchestra. Professionally I am hoping to finish my degree and study in graduate school.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
I am very interested in science, particularly biology. I also enjoy reading, watching movies and listening to all kinds of music.

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Elgar Cello Concerto

09. For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour?/ Pour participants vétérans : Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de l’ONJC ?
I had an amazing time at NYO Canada last year. My fondest memories would have to be with all the amazing musicians I met and all the friends I made, whom I still talk to!

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I always loved music. My parents tell me about how when I was a kid, I had a toy violin and would hold it between my knees, like a cello! After starting, I embraced classical music and have always enjoyed listening to it and playing it.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
I am currently at the University of Alberta studying biology. I think the biggest challenge for me right now would be in keeping music a part of my life. Even though I am not pursing a career in only music, I still hope to keep taking lessons, and playing in orchestras and ensembles.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
I had an amazing time playing with such a high level orchestra last year, I was excited at the prospect of getting to be a part of it again!

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
As they did last year, my experiences with the NYO Canada will help me grow as a musician. I am excited to play some amazing music with some amazing musicians. I know it will be a great learning experience for me, as I will be able to broaden my repertoire and work on my technical skills.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would probably be spending my time in Edmonton working at a summer job; I currently work at a cafe here in Edmonton.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
I have had many proud moments throughout my career in music. One that stands out strongly is when I was first accepted into NYOC. I had put so much work into the audition material and I was overwhelmed to know that it had all paid off.
