01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?
7 years old.

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I chose the violin because I was presented with a choice between the violin and the piano, and I thought the piano was already popular enough (but it turns out the violin is pretty popular too...). Also, I loved the sound of the violin on recordings I had listened to.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
My professional goal is to become a pediatrician. I am currently enrolled in the Biomedical Sciences Undergrad program at uOttawa, and hope to be able to (somehow) make it to medical school and beyond. But regardless of what I end up doing, I'll always keep music and my violin by my side.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
In addition to music, I enjoy spending time reading books, running/exercising, and as a full time university student...studying.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?
No.

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Itzhak Perlman.

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique.

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major.

09. For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour?/ Pour participants vétérans : Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de l’ONJC ?
Can I say the entire session?... Off the top of my head though, cheering on Germany in the 2014 World Cup, nerf guns, and the haphazard chamber music sessions in the hallways were just a few of the countless great memories I made last summer.

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I was a bit reluctant to keep up with the violin immediately after I started, as I had a different extracurricular activity every day of the week. But after reaching a somewhat advanced level, I realized that the violin was the thing I enjoyed the most, and promptly dropped most of my other activities in order to make more time for music. As soon as I was getting more involved in the musical community, I really began to appreciate my instrument and all the opportunities it provided for me to express myself, meet new people, and travel around the world.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
Personally, my biggest challenge in music is my lack of motivation to practice. I have never been able to bring myself to practice for very long, unless it's right before an audition/performance.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
NYOC 2014 was an unforgettable summer for me, and I'd like to be able to take part in such an incredible program again.

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
I believe that participating in the NYOC will help me become a better ensemble player (both in chamber and orchestral playing) and a better musician in general.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
No.

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would most likely be working/volunteering, taking extra courses in the summer, or doing research in a lab.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
The most exciting moment of my musical career was being able to perform in front of a crowd of 16000 people for National We Day 2014 in Ottawa. It was an incredible experience.
