01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
My first encounter with harpist is on a family trip to Vancouver. The image of the elegant lady, creating magical sound from her fingertips with sparkling seashore in the background has left a really strong impression on me. After returning back to Taiwan, I then decided to learn the harp. I was also really lucky because there was a harp learning center about five-minute walking distance from my house which I never noticed before the trip.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I would like to become a professional musician who do not need to do other part time job and is able to live through music making. I also really enjoying playing all different genres of music. Therefore, I would like to have a diverse music career.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
I enjoy drawing, needle felting, sleeping, reading manga, and watching anime. Recently, I also started learning Japanese Classical Dance and it is really amusing.

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?
Yes, but just for myself.

06. Who is your favourite classical musician?/ Quel est votre artiste (musicien) préféré ?
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (for now)

07. What is your favourite piece of music?/ Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Ravel's Introduction et Allegro (for now)

08. What is your favourite concerto for your instrument?/ Quel est votre concerto préféré pour votre instrument?
Concierto de Aranjuez, harp version (for now)

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
I have always enjoyed classical music. I also love the moment when you finally play the piece as you wish after putting hours and hours of practice. But one of the most important reasons for me to decide to pursue classical music is the support from my parents.

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
Myself. I believe instead of the big environment, one's way of thinking and attitude is more important and influential to one's life.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
I believe this will be a wonderful learning experience for me.

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
By learning with amazing coaches and working with great musicians, I believe I will be able to grow both as a harpist and as an orchestral musician.

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
No, this is the only program I apply this year.

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I will be spending the summer in my grandmother's house back in Taiwan. I will be playing harp, needle felting, reading manga, watch TV and go swimming with my grandmother, shopping with my cousins, and eating delicious food.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
I do not remember having any proudest moment of my music career. However, I always feel really satisfying after performing and feel like I have created music. I also feel really happy when people come and tell me how much they enjoyed the concert after a performance.

17. What scholarships, if any, have you been awarded in the past year?/ Quelles bourses, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
S. Cyril Maplethorp Memorial Scholarship in Music and Carol FONTAINE Scholarship in Music from University of British Columbia
