01. How old were you when you started playing your instrument?/ Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?

02. Why did you choose your instrument?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I actually wanted to learn the piano at first. However, as we were moving to Canada at the time, violin was a much more affordable and appropriate choice.

03. Describe some of your professional goals./Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I would like to eventually pursue a career in medicine, possibly in the field of pediatrics. However, I am keeping my options open and music continues and will always be a big part of my life.

04. What are your other interests and/or hobbies?/ Quels sont vos autres intérêts ou passe-temps?
I enjoying playing and watching tennis and soccer. I also like to travel and spend time with my friends, family, and doggy!

05. Do you write/arrange your own music?/ Êtes-vous compositeur ou arrangeur de votre propre musique ?
Only in theory class.

09. For returning members: What is your fondest memory from a previous session and/or tour?/ Pour participants vétérans : Quels sont vos souvenirs préférés de la session ou tournée précédente de l’ONJC ?
In 2014, watching Germany win the cup with some fellow NYO-ers at the cinema was a great atmosphere (I was born in Germany and am a huge fan of Die Mannschaft!). Rehearsing and performing the Dvorak Piano Quintet across Canada with my close friends were some of the best moments of my 2015.

10. What made you decide to pursue classical music?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi une formation en musique classique ?
Both of my parents studied and lived in Germany for a long time where all people talk about is football, beer, and music. I think they really enjoyed the German culture and eventually encouraged me to learn a classical instrument. I have loved it ever since!

11. What do you think is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?/ Quel est le plus grand obstacle à surmonter afin de poursuivre une carrière en musique ?
A challenge I have been working to overcome is getting nervous/anxious before and during performances. I think I have to learn to stay relaxed and enjoy performing more.

12. Why did you choose to apply to NYO Canada?/ Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de poser votre candidature pour NYO Canada?
My past two summers in the program have honestly been some of the best times of my life!

13. How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?/ Comment bénéficierez-vous de votre participation dans le programme de NYO Canada?
NYO Canada is arguably the top professional orchestra training program for young aspiring musicians in the country. Having been with the orchestra the past two summers, I know the program will allow me to get coaching from world-class musicians and work with some of Canada's finest young musicians. I have also never been to Portugal, muito obrigado:)

14. Were you accepted to any other summer music programs this year?/ Avez-vous été accepté/e à tout autre programme musical estival cette année?
Nope, NYO Canada is the bomb dot com!

15. If you weren’t touring with the NYO Canada, what would you be doing during the summer?/ Si vous n’étiez pas en tournée avec NYO Canada, que feriez-vous cet été?
I would probably be working in the lab doing some research under a prof, practising, and working as a waiter.

16. What was the proudest moment of your music career thus far?/ Jusqu’ici, quel est le moment de votre carrière musicale qui vous a apporté le plus de fierté?
Receiving my Performer's ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music and performing the Dvorak Piano Quintet across Canada with friends last summer.

17. What scholarships, if any, have you been awarded in the past year?/ Quelles bourses, le cas échéant, avez-vous remporté au cours de la dernière année?
Ken Murray, R. W. Schultz, and Ross and Doris Dixon Scholarships from WLU Faculty of Music
