How old were you when you started playing your instrument? / Quel âge aviez-vous quand vous avez commencé à jouer votre instrument ?
12 years old

Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ?
I chose the clarinet because it was one of the few instruments I knew about. When I got into high school, I had never seen any other instrument appart from the clarinet, the flute and the trumpet.

What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles.
I love orchestral playing as much as chamber music. I would very much like to have a job in a good orchestra, or have a solid music chamber project. Of course, I want to continue teaching. I love having students of all levels, and I would be as happy teaching in high school as in cegep or university.

What made you decide to pursue classical music?
I love orchestral playing as much as chamber music. I would very much like to have a job in a good orchestra, or have a solid music chamber project. Of course, I want to continue teaching. I love having students of all levels, and I would be as happy teaching in high school as in cegep or university.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your pursuit of a career in music?
The hardest thing in my opinion is the instability. You never know when you'll have a gig, when there will be an important opening and where it will be. It is hard planning your life on the long term. Even if you practise really hard, that does not give you any garantee on anything. ou just have to be at the right place at the right moment.

How do you feel you will benefit from participation in NYO Canada?
First of all, NYOC will give me more orchestral playing as well as chamber music experience. It is a great opportunity to play under a very talented conductor. Secondly, I think it will provide me with a lot of new contacts, and that is very important in the music world. Finally I will have the chance to improve my playing by working on great (and hard) repertoire and playing with inspirational young musicians all summer.

Do you write or arrange your own music?
no

Do you participate in any other performing or creative arts?/ Êtes-vous artiste dans un autre milieu que la musique (théâtre, arts visuels, etc.) ?
I did a lot of acting when I was younger. I went to an acting camp for 3 years and then worked there for years being older.

What are your interests outside classical music / Avez-vous d’autres intérêts à part la musique classique ?
One of my biggest interest is horseback riding. I started taking weekly lessons 8 months ago and I just love it. Now I ride twice a week. I also enjoy reading a lot. I cannot take the public transport without my book. In addition I love cooking (even if I am not that good right now), eating (that is the best part), going out with friends, movies, etc!

Who is your favourite classical musician? / Quel est votre artiste (classique) préféré ?
Phillipe Jarousky, Sabine Meyer, so many others...!

Who is your favourite non-classical musician? / Quel est votre artiste (non classique) préféré ?
Holly Cole

What is your favourite piece of music? / Quel est votre morceau préféré ?
Im Abendrot-Richard Strauss (with the singer Jessy Normand)

If you weren't touring with NYO Canada what would you be doing with your summer?
I would be teaching in different music camps. Last year I spent 2 weeks at the Gatineau Conservatory, a week in the Laurentians and a week teaching for the summer music camp of a private secondary school in Saint-Anne-des-lacs.

What is there about you that you think people might be surprised to know?
I lived in Africa for 5 years when I was young. We where in Ouagadougou, that is the capital of Burkina Faso. When we left Canada, I was 4 and we came back when I was 9 That is where I learned to speak english, because I was in a american school there. The International school of Ouagadougou.

What advice would you give young artists just starting out?
The first and most important thing is to love playing your instrument. If that is strong enough, the best advice I could give is to practise METHODICALLY. If you know how to structure you work and be disciplined, you can reach all the musical and technical goals.
